How do we treat allergies? :
Prevention.
By identifying the cause or the trigger factor we can try to either eliminate it or avoid it. This is why a full allergy assessment is important. It will help identify the cause then appropriate advice can be given.
The following tips may be helpful
· Make sure to have your house adequately exposed to sun. Sun can reduce humidity and dampness. This will help by preventing moulds from forming.
· Clean floor with water to reduce dust.
· Vacuum floors rather than sweeping.
· Try to reduce the amount of carpets at home especially in the bedroom.
· Wash linen and pillow covers weekly at temperature 60°C or over as it gives you the best chance to eliminate allergens.
· Soft toys for children should be exposed to the sun once weekly or put in the freezer for 12 hrs once a month to kill off dust mites.
· If you don’t have a pet then try not to get one. If you do have a pet, then try to avoid it coming indoors or at least keep it away from the bedroom/beds.
· Use protective gloves when using detergents, washing liquids or floor antiseptics.
· Try to get information about peak times of the pollen seasons.
